Frequently Asked Questions

Q. I have two left feet. Can I learn to clog dance?
A. Absolutely. Most clogging steps start on the left foot, so you already have an advantage.

Q. Do I have to practice at home?
A. A few minutes of practice every day at home certainly helps, however, you are not required to practice at home.

Q. What should I wear for lessons?
A. Wear something comfortable and lightweight. Clogging is aerobic so expect to get warm. Wear comfortable shoes that lace up or loafers. Flip-flops, sandals, or crocs are not recommended.

Q. Do I need a partner to clog dance?
A. No. We do not dance with partners. Clogging is similar to line dancing or tap dancing.

Q. Where can I get clogging shoes?
A. Shoes and taps are usually purchased separately and the taps are glued onto the shoes. You can purchase shoes and taps on-line or visit Petty Coat Junction Dance Shop in Lynnwood WA. There are lots of Youtube videos on how to glue the taps on your shoes. If you already have a pair of comfortable shoes you can put taps on them if the sole is flat enough.

Q. I have never done any kind of dancing. I'm not sure if I have a sense of rhythm. Will this be too hard?
A. This is a perfect dance for those that have not danced before. You don't have to worry about stepping on your partners toes or making a wrong move. Once you learn a few basic steps you will feel the rhythm.

Q. What kind of music do you dance to?
A. We dance any music with a stong down beat: Bluegrass, Country, Gospel, Blues, Rockabilly, Rock and Roll, Pop, and even Hip Hop.

Q. Do I need special shoes?
A. You do not need special shoes to learn the basics of clog dancing. The most important thing is that your shoes are comfortable. As you continue with lessons you will probably want to invest in a pair of clogging shoes with jingle taps or a pair of tap shoes.
